Orlando Florida Activities

When it comes to Orlando there is a wide array of activities for your entertainment to choose from. The city of Orlando is the major city of central Florida, sixth largest city of the peninsula and county seat of Orange County.

As the principal city of Greater Orlando, its metro area includes part of Kissimmee, Deltona and Daytona Beach. Apart of being home to the University of Central Florida, the second largest university in the state and sixth largest campus in America, Orlando is also home to some of the most popular world-class attractions.

Walt Disney World Resort is the largest recreational resort around the world and also the most visited of any other resort of its kind. Walt Disney World Resort is located outside the city limits of Orlando, between Bay Lake and Lake Buenavista.

Internationally known just as Walt Disney World (WDW) is operated by The Walt Disney company and comprises themed hotels, golf courses, recreational venues, restaurants, and shopping districts for all the family.

Another worldwide attraction in Orlando is the Sea World, a water park that nowadays is part of a chain of marine mammal parks across the United States. Famous for its dolphins, the park features a variety of marine animals including sea lion, orca, and others.

Orlando also counts with the Universal Orlando Resort, best know around the world by its film globe Universal. This is another theme park resort developed by NBC Universal and the Blackstone Group.

Universal Orlando Resort has only two multi-level theme parks, Universal's Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida, even though it receives over 52 million visitors each year. This complex also features three Loews hotels and the Universal CityWalk, a unique night-time entertainment destination.

The city of Orlando provides business entertainment through the Orange County Convention Center, which is not only a venue for conventions and conferences, but also includes numerous golf courses to match any golfer's level.

Gatorland is a 110-acre theme park and nature conservatory located in the southern part of the city, between Orlando and Kissimmee. and it is considered a necessary stopover toward the Florida Everglades. Founded in 1949, this park is one of the oldest attractions in Orlando.

There are also several mall centers such as the Florida Mall, Mall of Millenia, Fashion Square Mall, and West Oaks Mall. Downtown Orlando, the commercial district, is undergoing restructuring to offer a wide array of dinning cultural and shopping attractions.

In the northern part of the city, the Orlando Civic Center offers the Orlando Loch Haven Park, a 45-acre cultural park situated between Lake Estelle, Lake Rowena, and Lake Formosa, encompassing numerous museums, art galleries, and theater groups that make this place the region’s premier attraction.

Nearby, the Mennello Museum of American Art is a must visit site, featuring  a permanent collection devoted to Earl Cunningham, a sea artist who was born in 1893 and settled in St. Augustine, Florida in 1949. Cunningham is considered one of the greatest 20th century American folk artists, closely attached to this region.
